To begin with I*d like to say that every country has its own customs, traditions and holidays. Some of the holidays are celebrated all over the world. Of course, it*s impossible to enumerate all the holidays. But I*d like to tell you about the most important and traditional in Russia.
There are two the most popular holidays in Russia: New Year and Christmas. New Year holiday is favourite holiday especially with children. The children believe that presents are sent by Father Frost and Snowmaden. We have the New Year day on 1 January. Before New Year we decorate the New Year tree with illumination and Christmas toys. On the night of 31 December I always stay at home with my parents. At 12 o*clock we say « Happy New Year !» and give presents to each other.
Christmas in Russia is celebrated on the 7 of January in the Orthogfs Church and on the 25 of December by Catholics. The holiday is connected with the wonderful birth of Jesus Christ as it is described in the Whole Bible. The Christmas tree is decorated with Christmas toys, candles, apples and sweets. People wish each other « Merry Christmas!».
Easter is a very popular holiday in Russia in memory of reserection of Jesus Christ. Easter has no fixed date. It*s the first Sunday after the 21 March.
The Day of Sovereignty of Russia is celebrated on the 12 of June. We have no special way of celebrating it but it is a day of and a national holiday.
The 8 of March is the womens* day. On this day men give women flowers and do all domestic work around the house.
The first May is a great international worker holiday. On this day people from other countries show their solidarity.
9 of May is a victory day is a great holiday. The 9 of May was the happy day for the people of Russia who won the war over fashizm from 1941-1945. It is celebrated with the veterans of the army.

Easter, the day of the Resurrection of Christ - the greatest feast of the Orthodox Church. That it is the main thrust of the Orthodox faith - God himself became man, died for us, and voskresnuv, rescued people from the power of death and greha.Prazdnovanie of Easter is, of course, is not only a visit to Worship. This holiday has always been fond of people and it involves a lot of custom: to give each other special gifts, a special way to decorate a table, prepare special food.

Easter has been celebrated over a long period of history and has many rich folk traditions that are no longer fully preserved. The last Sunday before Easter (Palm Sunday) is called Willow Sunday (Verbna nedilia). On this day pussy-willow branches are blessed in the church. The people tap one another with these branches, repeating the wish: ‘Be as tall as the willow, as healthy as the water, and as rich as the earth’.
Easter begins with the Easter matins and high mass, during which the pasky (traditional Easter breads) and pysanky and krashanky (decorated or colored Easter eggs) are blessed in the church. Butter, lard, cheese, roast-suckling pigs, sausage, smoked meat, and little napkins containing poppy seeds, millet, salt, pepper, and horseradish are also blessed. After the matins all the people in the congregation exchange Easter greetings, give each other krashanky, and then hurry home with their baskets of blessed food.

Easter is an important annual religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.[1] In Christian belief, Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days[2] after his crucifixion. Many Christian denominations celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday[3] (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday. The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interperated to be between 26 and 36 AD.

Easter also refers to the season of the church year called Eastertide or the Easter Season. Traditionally the Easter Season lasted for the forty days from Easter Day until Ascension Day but now officially lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. The first week of the Easter Season is known as Easter Week or the Octave of Easter. Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of prayer and penance.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. Easter falls at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the cycle of the Moon. After several centuries of disagreement, all churches accepted the computation of the Alexandrian Church (now the Coptic Church) that Easter is the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the first moon whose 14th day (the ecclesiastic "full moon") is on or after March 21 (the ecclesiastic "vernal equinox").

Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover not only for much of its symbolism but also for its position in the calendar. It is also linked to Spring Break, a secular school holiday (customarily a week long) celebrated at various times across North America, and characterized by road trips and bacchanalia.

Cultural elements, such as the Easter Bunny, have become part of the holiday's modern celebrations, and those aspects are often celebrated by many Christians and non-Christians alike. There are also some Christian denominations who do not celebrate Easter.

There are many different holidays in Russia: interesting and funny, patriotic and dedicated to some historical events. For example, there are such holidays in Russia as the New Year, the Women's day, the Victory Day, the Independence Day, the April's Fool's day, and many others.

I like all holidays. But most of all I like the New Year. The New Year is a holiday for everyone. It is very popular, especially with children.
There are lots of New Year traditions in Russia. In every home there is a New Year tree glittering in coloured lights and decorations. Children always wait for Father Frost and Snow Maiden to come and to give them a present. Many people consider a New Year to be a family holiday. People usually see the New Year in sitting round a festive table. They are addressing New Year's greetings and good wishes to one another. They are raising their wineglasses filled with sparkling champagne.
But most of young people prefer spending the New Year in the companies of their friends. As for me, I prefer to see the New Year in with my family, because I think I should spend as much time as possible with them, as in some years I'll have to leave my family to begin my own life and these holidays may always be the last within my family.

Easter is a very popular holiday in Russia in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus. Easter has no fixed date. It is held on the first Sunday after the date of the first full moon that occurs on or after March 21. Here is how the Holy Bible describes Jesus Christ's resurrection: "Suddenly there was a great earthquake; and the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door of the tomb and sat on it. And the angel said, 'I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he is risen."
That's why people nowadays greet each other on the Easter day by the words "Christ is risen!" And the expected answer is "He is risen indeed!" People also paint eggs and give them to one another as a symbol of eternal life.
