We do not live in an era of movement, but in an era of entertainment. This statement begs the question: are we really living in an era where entertainment is valued over progress and advancement?
There is no doubt that the advancement of technology has led to a significant increase in the amount of entertainment available to us. From social media platforms to streaming services and video games, there is an abundance of distractions available at the touch of a button. This has led many to suggest that we are no longer focused on progress, but rather on being entertained.
However, it is important to remember that technological advancements have also allowed for significant progress in a number of fields. Medical technology, for example, has led to life-saving treatments and procedures that were once thought impossible. The development of electric cars and renewable energy sources is also evidence that we are moving in the right direction in terms of sustainability.
It is also crucial to acknowledge that not everyone is solely focused on entertainment. There are individuals and groups dedicated to humanitarian causes and working towards a better future for all. The rise of social movements, such as Black Lives Matter, climate change activism, and gender equality movements, all demonstrate a strong desire for progress.
Overall, while there is undoubtedly an increase in the amount of entertainment available, it would be a gross oversimplification to suggest that we no longer prioritize progress. We remain in an era of movement, one where we must balance entertainment with the pursuit of a better future.
