Axe porridge is a famous Russian fairy tale. People of different age know this fairy tale and like it. It tells us about a smart soldier and a greedy old woman.
An old soldier was returning home from the war. He was tired and hungry and was very happy when he saw a village on his way. He knocked at the door of one house and asked an old lady to let him in. He also asked for some food, but the lady said that she didn’t have any food at home. The soldier understood that she was greedy and said that he could make a porridge from the axe. He put the axe into the water and when the water boiled he asked first for some salt to add to his axe porridge, then for some groats, and butter. A delicious porridge was ready, and the greedy old woman didn’t understand that the main ingredient was not the axe.
