Почему gay переводится с английского, как веселый (одно из значений)???

Так на них же посмотреть - так обхихикаться можно....

весёлый, радостный - это первое значение слова.

Основное значение слова подверглось сильным изменениям в течение 20-го столетия. Та же история со словами конец и кончать в русском. Оказывается, они обозначают ещё просто завершение какого-либо действия или процесса.
