В чем разница в употреблении : another, the other, other?

another - другой, ещё один, ещё-какой-то (единственное число, то есть употребляется с существительным в единственным числе)

the other - другой (из двух предметов), оставшийся (единственное число)

another = an other. Просто их решили писать слитно.
В остальном правила такие же, как при употреблении артиклей.
another - другой (но неизвестно какой именно). other - другой (известно какой, например другой из имеющихся двух предметов...). Что касается the, то надо по контексту смотреть...
