Was an English novelist, journalist, sociologist and historian, who is best known for his science-fiction novels such as The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897) and The War of the Worlds (1898). The Time Machine (1895) which was his first novel, was so popular that it has been made into two successful films. The novel is about a young scientist, Alexander Hartdegen, who invents a time machine and devotes his life to travelling through time. Wells' attention to detail makes his work seem believable even today.
