1. The concept of road transport refers to several types of transport that have a different
technical base, but are united by operation on a public road network. The types of road transport
include: road transport; urban electric street transport (tram, trolley bus); non-mechanical
transport uses the muscular strength of a person (bicycle, rickshaw) or animals (horse-drawn,
pack). The first two of the specified types of road transport have the greatest practical
importance. In road transport, communication routes are organizationally and economically
separate from the entities directly engaged in transport activities. 2. In road transport there are two economic sectors that are quite developed and
numerous in terms of the composition of the subjects of their activity: commercial and non- commercial. Activities in the field of road transport can be carried out both on a professional
basis and by citizens for their personal, domestic purposes. Rolling stock of road transport
includes: cars for various purposes (cars, buses, trucks and special cars) and motorcycles; urban
electric transport crews (trolley buses and tram cars); horse drawn carriages; in the short term - electric cars.
3. Road transport has the highest value and share in the composition of road transport.
As part of road transport there are both of the above-mentioned economic sectors, and the
commercial sector not only provides transport services for the transportation of passengers,
cargo, baggage and mail directly, but also operates special cars, provides services for the
maintenance and repair of vehicles of various owners, rental, rental and car parking, etc.
4. In the commercial sector, two areas of activity should be distinguished: first, it is an
activity whose purpose is to provide transportation services and transport operations (in other
words, transport activities are related to the main production); secondly, this is an activity in
which transport services and work “on the side” are not and are not performed (for example,
transportation of purchased materials by vehicles of an industrial enterprise for the purpose of
carrying out the main production process). In this and in another case, transport activities are
carried out only on a professional basis.
