Where is Canada situated and what countries does it border on?
Canada is located in the northern part of North America. It borders the United States to the south and northwest (Alaska). It also has maritime borders with Denmark (Greenland) and France (Saint Pierre and Miquelon).
What oceans is the country washed by? What are Canada’s biggest rivers and lakes? Where do the rivers rise and where do they flow?
Canada is washed by three oceans: the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Arctic Ocean to the north. The largest lakes include the Great Lakes (partially), Great Bear Lake, Great Slave Lake, and Lake Winnipeg. Major rivers are the Mackenzie (flows into the Arctic Ocean), St. Lawrence (into the Atlantic Ocean), and Fraser (into the Pacific Ocean).
Now can you characterize the relief of the country? Has it got any mountain ranges? How high are they?
The relief of Canada is diverse: in the west, there are the Rocky Mountains (up to 6,000 m high), in the center and east - plains and lowlands, and in the east - the Appalachian Mountains (up to 1,900 m high).
Where do most of the Canadian population live and why?
Most Canadians (about 80%) live near the border with the United States, in the southern provinces. This is due to the milder climate and historical settlement patterns.
What is the administrative division of the country?
Canada is divided into 10 provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan) and three territories (Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon).
What are the biggest cities of Canada and where are they situated?
The largest cities are:
Toronto (Ontario)
Montreal (Quebec)
Vancouver (British Columbia)
Calgary (Alberta)
Ottawa (Ontario) - the capital of the country
What natural resources is the country rich in?
Canada is rich in:
Mineral resources (nickel, zinc, copper, iron, gold, oil, natural gas)
Forest resources (largest exporter of wood)
Water resources (largest number of lakes)
Energy resources (hydroelectric power)
Land resources (fertile soils in southern provinces)
